Notable Career Highlights: Founded and operated C.O.M.O Inc. from 1994 – 2001. John sold his company interest in 2001 to relocate to Charlotte with his wife Laura a native of Greensboro. Recognized as project manager of the year in 2003 for a local building contractor where he was employed. In 2004 John founded Urban Building Group to return to his small business roots and to follow his passion for building. Since then John has successfully guided UBG through the completion of 100 million dollars of custom projects. UBG is now recognized perennially in the top 10 by the Charlotte Business Journal.  John has successfully staffed his company with a design team to better serve his clients. His projects have now won over 40 industry awards including the Contractor of the Year Award (COTY) and Excellence in Remodeling Awards in a wide variety of categories. In recent years John has added a light commercial division for UBG focused on offering the same level of detail and quality in the commercial sector. He has also added a real-estate division focused on acquiring in-fill lots and rental properties that can be developed as custom home sites in the future.

Background: John brings over 30 years of construction experience and small business management skills to his team. His leadership has helped to establish UBG as one of the strongest design and construction teams in the area. He and wife Laura have been blessed with four healthy children (Luke, Mary, and twins Mack & Libby).  John attributes his passion for building and transforming homes to the exposure he received from his father as a young boy. He grew up visiting store fronts under construction throughout the country with his father who was director of store planning at The Limited, a large multi-brand clothing retailer. John says “even when we were on vacation, my dad’s work ethic and attention to detail had us in some mall looking at store fixtures and the quality of the craftsmanship in a store front they were trying to open. He would scrutinize every little detail. It helped give me a critical eye.” In addition to work, John enjoys coaching youth sports, running, mountain biking and spending time with family.
